Yaya Touré could remain at Manchester City IF he accepts a huge pay cut – report

Yaya Touré again impressed on Saturday as Manchester City thrashed Crystal Palace, with the sort of passing statistics we’ve come to expect throughout his trophy-laden stay at the Etihad.

Despite some good form since returning from an exile, Yaya’s future has remained unclear with conflicting reports on if he’ll stay or go when his contract expires in the summer.

There are two reports in the Sunday newspapers that suggest Touré may still have a part in Pep Guardiola’s plans, despite the City boss preparing to make serious changes to his squad, which will include the departure of several veterans.

The Daily Star Sunday claims that Touré wants to remain in England, something we have heard before, and continues to reject offers from the wealthy Chinese Super League.

Guardiola is thinking of keeping the 33-year-old, but the club are only prepared to pay him £100,000-a-week if he is to sign a new contract, over 50 per cent less than what he currently earns (£230,000-a-week).

The Daily Star Sunday, along with Simon Mullock of the Sunday Mirror, report that Touré is resisting calls from Ivory Coast boss Marc Wilmots to come out of retirement, in a bid to prolong his stay at Manchester City.

Were he to return to international duty, Yaya would again become unavailable during the African Cup of Nations, something that has impacted City’s seasons during the midfielder’s seven-year stay at the club.
