Valencia turn down option to sign Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City – City Watch

Despite an impressive season on loan in La Liga, Eliaquim Mangala will not be joining Valencia on a permanent deal from Manchester City this summer.

Speaking on the Deportes COPE Valencia radio show, journalist Hugo Ballester revealed what has been rumoured for months – that Valencia believe Mangala is too costly for them and will not use their option to sign him.

The 26-year-old won’t be short of suitors, with Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez reported to have held talks with Txiki Begiristain about a double deal for Mangala and Fernando, the duo who joined in the summer of 2014 from FC Porto. Even Real Madrid have been linked, although we can probably file that one under ‘pure speculation’.

Football Leaks revealed in January of 2016 that Manchester City had invested a total of £42 million to sign Mangala, in what was a quite complex deal, and City will be lucky to get half of this back when they sell the French international this summer.
