Newly-promoted La Liga side Girona want SEVEN Man City players including Patrick Roberts – City Watch
The close working relationship between Manchester City and Girona FC is about to be ramped up with TV3 (via AS) revealing that the Catalan club plan to make between 10 and 15 signings ahead of their move up to La Liga, SEVEN of them coming from City.
It is assumed that Pablo Maffeo, who has enjoyed two loan terms at the club as they sought (and finally achieved) promotion to La Liga, will return, and TV3 names the six others likely to join him as Jason Denayer, Aleix Garcia, Paolo Fernandes, Brahim Diaz, Marlos Moreno and Patrick Roberts.
All seven of the players who could head to the Estadi Montilivi are 21 or younger, with wonderkid Brahim Diaz just 17 years of age but such a talent that he is considered ready for some high-level football.
These are not done deals yet, but the intention of Girona is to bring all seven of them in on loan. City and the players themselves must first agree to these requests, but with the strong relationship between the clubs, it is quite possible this can be arranged.
Girona’s promotion to Spain’s top flight has increased the possibilities available to them from Man City, and the likes of Denayer, Moreno and Roberts would most likely have been out of the question had they remained in the Segunda División.
In the coming days, Girona will find out how many of the seven young City prospects can join them next season, with sporting director Quique Cárcel and coach Pablo Machín hopeful than all of them will be playing their football in sunny Spain next season.
