From Spain: Ex-Barcelona midfielder could join Manchester City after leaving Spain job

Manchester City could welcome the highly regarded Albert Celades on to the coaching staff with reports emerging from Spain today that he has the option of joining Pep Guardiola in England.

Celades left his post as Spain under-21 coach two weeks ago after leading the next generation of Spanish youngsters since 2014, and was a strong candidate to lead Spain at the World Cup in Russia before Fernando Hierro was tasked with the job.

And according to a host of Spanish sources, Celades has ‘several attractive options’ on the table including a role at City or potentially coaching the South Korean national team, who are still deciding whether to keep Shin Tae-yong.

42-year-old Celades, a former defensive midfielder who played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, has worked with Guardiola before having spent a few months at Bayern Munich when Pep was in charge of the Bundesliga giants.

Celades worked as a scout for the youth while in Germany, a link between the youth teams and first teams who studied which players could be capable of making the step up.

With City serious about their academy project, Barcelona-born Celades could assume a similar role should he arrive at Man City and help bridge the gap between EDS and first team.
