Paris Saint-Germain explore loan deal for Manchester City defender – report

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are considering approaching Manchester City with an offer to take unwanted defender Eliaquim Mangala on loan, France Football reports.

The Parisiens are after a cheap option capable of entering the rotation with centre-backs Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and youngster Presnel Kimpembe. And having failed to acquire Pepe, who instead joined Besiktas, sporting director Antero Henrique is looking into Mangala’s situation.

Mangala is still under contract with City until 2019, but he is not in Pep Guardiola’s plans and following a season-long loan deal at Valencia, he is available for sale at a discount rate of €25million (£22.1million).

Despite their wealth, which rivals that of City, the Ligue 1 side would prefer to sign 26-year-old Mangala on loan rather than permanently. City may have other options as they seem much less open to loaning experienced names this summer than last, when Mangala, Joe Hart, Samir Nasri and Wilfried Bony all left on loan deals.

Mangala was linked with PSG’s domestic rivals Lyon, but club bosses did not unanimously agree on his profile and value for money, so instead are in the process of closing a deal for Besiktas defender Marcelo.

AC Milan have also been tenuously linked with Mangala, while Newcastle were credited with an interest earlier this summer but instead opted for former Manchester City-owned defender Florian Lejeune.
