On This Day in 2010: Yaya Touré joins Manchester City from Barcelona for £24million

It is seven years to the day since Manchester City completed the signing of midfield talisman Yaya Touré from FC Barcelona in a £24million deal.

At the time, many ‘experts’ in the English media mocked the move, calling Yaya Touré a defensive midfielder capable of neither scoring or creating goals. Oh, how wrong they were.

Touré has gone on to become one of City’s all-time greats, with his goals inspiring the club to league titles and domestic trophies. At the age of 34, he is still one of City’s key men and was rewarded with a new one-year deal in June, making him the only one of a group of veterans out of contract to remain at the club.
