Nice still in the running for Manchester City winger despite his preference for Celtic – report

OGC Nice could still sign Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts this summer, with the Ligue 1 outfit still hopeful of adding one attacker to their squad, L’Equipe reports.

It was reported on Sunday that Nice were attempting to finalise a loan move for Roberts before the deadline for submitting their Champions League squad to face Napoli.

That didn’t happen and Nice have since signed another young winger, 20-year-old Allan Saint-Maximin, from Monaco, appearing to put that story to bed. Dutch international Wesley Sneijder has also joined the club after leaving Galatasaray earlier this summer.

However, despite fresh reports of interest from Celtic and Roberts having a strong preference for a second spell at the Scottish giants, L’Equipe reckons Nice could still add the England youth international to their ranks.

The French newspaper reports that Lucien Favre wants one more addition and it could either be a loan for Roberts or a return for Hatem Ben Arfa – the latter an option that Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère doesn’t believe is likely.

City’s stance is that they would prefer Roberts to experience a new, more competitive league to continue his development, but several reports from up north make it clear that he’d like a return to Celtic Park and was due to let City bosses know that yesterday.

Further developments should arrive soon with Roberts needing clarity on his future with the new season near.
