Monday’s Manchester derby could be OFF after torrential rain in China

The first ever Manchester derby to be played overseas, and the first to pit Pep Guardiola against José Mourinho, is in danger of not happening.

Despite all 91,000 tickets being sold for the showcase friendly at Beijing’s National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) on Monday, China is currently suffering torrential rain and thunderstorms.

More thunderstorms are expected and organisers are worried that it could lead to the game, which is due to off at 8pm local time on Monday, being called off.

ICC spokesman Xiaozheng Ben said, “It is a concern, the weather has been really bad. But we’re hopeful the game will go ahead.”

There are no plans for the game to be rescheduled if called off and organisers will be working overtime to make sure it goes ahead. Below, you can see just how severe the weather has been in China.
