Manchester City still interested in Fabinho as Monaco resist interest from PSG – report

Manchester City remain interested in Monaco’s defensive specialist Fabinho according to Sunday’s edition of L’Equipe.

The principality club have rejected an offer from Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain for the 23-year-old and the club’s vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, responded to a €45million offer from the Parisiens by telling them that he does not want to strengthen a domestic rival.

This leaves foreign suitors in with a chance of signing Fabinho, but it would be an expensive transaction costing €60million (£52.6million) inclusive of bonuses.

The French newspaper specifically names Manchester City as one of three interested foreign clubs, along with Juventus and Atlético Madrid. Manchester United, who have been tipped to sign him, are not mentioned in the article.

Fabinho was initially thought to be one of Pep Guardiola’s main summer targets, but more recent reports state that City’s interested in the Brazilian has cooled somewhat. The question now is are City considering a move for the player again or are L’Equipe merely speculating based on City’s long-standing interest in the midfielder.
