Man City, Barcelona, Juventus & AC Milan could pay €30m clause of Spain defender – report

Iñigo Martínez has spent his entire professional career at Real Sociedad but this could finally be the summer during which he leaves Basque club, Spanish newspaper Marca reports.

And one of the clubs listed as having shown interest in the 26-year-old central defender is Manchester City – who just happen to be looking for a centre-back, the identity of whom is a mystery and subject of much discussion among Blues.

Along with City, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan are named as interested parties who are candidates to pay Martínez’s €30million (£26.5million) release clause, with Marca quite sure that a prominent European club is determined to sign the defender in the current transfer window.

Martínez’s agent has been in talks with an unnamed European club in recent weeks, with the suggestion being it is one of the four mentioned. Iñigo reported to the club yesterday to chat with La Real coach Eusebio Sacristán, but knows these could his final days at the Anoeta.

Capped four times by Spain, Martínez has made 223 appearances for Real Sociedad, showing admirable loyalty amid interest from a number of important clubs. At 5’11” (1.81m), some might consider him a little on the short side for Premier League football, but with City in pursuit of a ‘mystery centre-back’ who it has been suggested isn’t an obvious name, could Iñigo Martínez be a candidate?
