The Manchester giants have a recent history of doing battle not just on the pitch, but off it. Whether it is for players or commercial deals, Manchester City and Manchester United are involved in a fierce battle for superiority.

And according to an exclusive report by Le10sport, the two clubs are the only ones left in the ‘final sprint’ to sign Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva.

22-year-old Silva has been part of the outstanding Monaco team this season, the same team that sent City crashing out of the Champions League. And like almost every Monaco player, he has been previously linked with a move to the Etihad.

Real Madrid have also courted the skillful playmaker, but they have gone quiet lately and Le10sport have information that it is just City and United left in the mix who are capable of affording Silva. And Monaco are hopeful of an auction between the Manchester clubs for one of their most valuable assets.

Silva as the long-term replacement for… Silva? It makes sense on paper, but unless Pep Guardiola has an unlimited transfer budget at his disposal this summer, City may have other priorities.
