Another week, another City Loan Watch. This week has seen some of the City stars involved in heated matches and thrillers as the youngsters continue to learn their trade and develop in the major leagues around Europe.

In the Champions League, Sevilla were left stunned as they fell to a 2-0 defeat (3-2 on aggregate) at the King Power Stadium and were eliminated from the competition. Samir Nasri featured and endured a miserable return to England, the Frenchman was sent off after losing his head and clashing with Jamie Vardy. The attacking playmaker was given his marching orders after a fiery confrontation saw the Manchester City star aim a headbutt at the English record breaker. The altercation proved to be a pivotal moment in the match as Sevilla lost their rhythm and struggled to gain the same intensity that they had shown prior to the sending off.

Elsewhere in La Liga, Eliaquim Mangala continues to feature heavily for Valencia. The Frenchman was substituted off in the 82nd minute with his side 1-0 down at home to Sporting Gijon and the change of tactics by manager Voro worked a treat as Valencia netted an equaliser moments later. Meanwhile, Marlos Moreno was on the bench for Deportivo’s shock 2-1 win over Barcelona. In the Segunda, affiliate side Girona continue their promotion push with a 2-1 victory away at Reus, Pablo Maffeo featured at right-back once again as Girona moved 11 points clear of 3rd place Cadiz. Angeliño also started for Mallorca who picked up a vital point at home to Lugo to move up to 19th.

In Holland, Bersant Celina and Enes Ünal featured for FC Twente as they were comfortably beaten 3-0 away at Ajax. 19-year-old Ünal went into the game after scoring in his prior two matches, however the task proved too difficult as the 33-time league champions were too strong for Twente. Yaw Yeboah watched from the sidelines as he was an unused substitute. In the Eerst Divisie, NAC Breda picked up a long-awaited 3 points with a 2-0 victory away at Fortuna Sittard. James Horsfield was on the scoresheet as City’s affiliate side move up to 8th to keep their promotion hopes alive. Horsfield was the only player out of the City contingent at NAC Breda to start the game. Manu Garcia and Thomas Agyepong were substituted on in the second half while Ashley Smith-Brown watched from the bench.

It was another difficult evening for Joe Hart at Torino. On Monday evening at the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio continued their push for a place in the Champions League with a 3-1 victory over Torino. The match remained a tight affair until the floodgates opened on the 56th minute as Lazio scored 3 goals in 34 minutes. Torino were close to picking up a valuable point until the 87th minute which seen Balde Keita strike a stunning effort past the England number one. It was also a tough afternoon for Olivier Ntcham as Sampdoria completed the derby double over Genoa with a 1-0 victory at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. The Frenchman, who has regained his spot in the first team, was substituted in the 91st minute after a frustrating performance.

In England, due to the scheduling of the FA Cup, several games in the Premier League were postponed. One of the games affected involved Jason Denayer’s Sunderland as they were expected to make the short journey to Middlesbrough for a relegation 6-pointer. As a result, the fixture will be re-arranged for a later date. In addition, Stoke were given the weekend off, a situation that has been almost permanent for Wilfried Bony all season. The forward has endured a nightmare loan spell under Mark Hughes and the Ivorian has had some choice words about the former Manchester City manager.

In the Championship, Aaron Mooy was brought on in the 57th minute as Huddersfield picked up another 3 points with a 1-0 away victory at Brentford to keep up the pressure on Newcastle and Brighton at the top of the league. In League 1, David Faupala was substituted on in the 70th minute in a 3-3 thriller between Chesterfield and Peterborough. The Frenchman came on as the home side looked to find a late winner, but was unable to help his side secure the 3 points. In Scotland, Patrick Roberts was involved in the Old Firm derby, the young winger came off the bench on 68 minutes with Celtic leading 1-0, however a late strike by Clint Hill saw the points shared in Glasgow.
