It has been a miserable week for the City contingent out on loan across Europe, as while some have picked up vital wins, the majority have been involved in difficult games including howlers, sending offs and one player part of a 4-0 thrashing.

We start off in Spain, where the weekend’s events were dominated by Eliaquim Mangala’s performance at the Camp Nou. The Frenchman was once again named in Voro’s starting line up against Barcelona and was involved in an eventful 15 minutes that ultimately changed the outlook of the game. Mangala, who has been a regular starter in the Valencia line-up, went from hero to villain as his 29th minute header was cancelled out in the 44th minute when the centre-back conceded a penalty and was handed a red card. Mangala was judged to have cynically tugged Suarez in the box and the resulting penalty was dispatched by Lionel Messi. The 10-men visitors struggled to regain momentum after the break as Barcelona took advantage and scored an additional two goals to ensure a 4-2 victory. Meanwhile, Samir Nasri’s week went from bad to worse as Sevilla were beaten 3-1 at the Calderon. The Frenchman struggled to make a much needed impact after he was fiercely criticised for his sending off in the Champions League against Leicester. Sevilla stay 3rd in La Liga, 8 points behind Real Madrid. In the Segunda, Pablo Maffeo featured for affiliate side Girona in their damaging 2-1 defeat at home to 3rd place Cadiz. Meanwhile, Angeliño played a part in Real Mallorca’s 2-1 away defeat to Huesca.

In Serie A, it was a weekend to forget for Joe Hart. The England number was responsible for both goals conceded in Torino’s 2-2 draw at home to Inter Milan. The Manchester City goalkeeper, who has impressed in Serie A, made two costly mistakes to help Inter Milan pick up a point at the Stadio Olimpico. Hart was slow down to get a hand on Kondogbia’s opener before flapping at Christian Ansaldi’s cross to allow Antonio Candreva to bag Inter’s second of the match. The result sees Torino stay 10th in Serie A as they await their next game against Udinese after the international break. It was also a difficult afternoon for Olivier Ntcham who featured for Genoa, his side falling to a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan.

In England, it was a frustrating afternoon for Jason Denayer and Sunderland as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Burnley. The relegation candidates drew a blank at the Stadium of Light and the point means they drift further away from safety with David Moyes’ side now 7 points off Swansea who sit in 17th place. Denayer has featured prominently in Sunderland’s side with 22 appearances for the club as they fight for safety, however it is clear that the problems at Sunderland lie with their attacking as the Wearsiders remain the second lowest scorers in the league. In the EFL Championship, Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield were stunned as they were defeated 4-0 to relegation-threatened Bristol City. The Aussie midfielder who has recently been named in the Championship team of the season was left surprised moving into the international break as the Terriers automatic promotion bid took a severe hit. Meanwhile, in League 1, David Faupala featured as Chesterfield lost 2-1 to Bristol Rovers. In Scotland, Patrick Roberts was substituted on for the final 20 minutes by Brendan Rodgers in Celtic’s comfortable 2-0 victory over Dundee.

Most of the domestic success for the Manchester City stars came in Holland this weekend. FC Twente continued to push for a European spot with a 3-0 victory away from home at Roda JC. Enes Ünal scored his 3rd goal in 4 matches for the club as he was assisted by fellow Manchester City loanee Yaw Yeboah, who came on for the final 15 minutes. The duo teamed up to secure the 3 points in the 77th minute as FC Twente move up to 6th in the Eredivisie, just 3 points behind 4th place. Bersant Celina was dropped to the bench for the game. In the second tier, affiliate side NAC Breda continued their fine form with a thrilling 4-3 win over Jong Ajax. The tie was the match of the weekend in Holland as the home side stunned Ajax’s second team to open the race for promotion to 7 teams in the Eerste Divisie. Manu Garcia was on the scoresheet as he pulled back a late equaliser in the first half. James Horsfield also started the game while Brandon Barker was brought on in the 46th minute before being replaced half an hour later by team-mate Thomas Agyepong after picking up an injury. NAC Breda move up to 7th in the league, a mere 5 points behind Jong Ajax in 2nd with just 7 games left of the current season.
