Expect cards this Wednesday when 43-year-old Italian referee, Gianluca Rocchi, takes charge of Manchester City’s trip to AS Monaco.

Rocchi is known for some controversial performances in Serie A, including a 3-2 win for Juventus over Roma several years ago where he handed out three debatable penalties. He also handed out seven yellow cards in his most recent Champions League appointment, the match between Legia Warszawa vs. Sporting CP in December.

This will not be Rocchi’s first Manchester City game, as he oversaw both the 1-0 defeat to Barcelona in 2015 (Round of 16 second leg) and 1-1 draw withg Real Madrid in 2012. He handed out 6 yellow cards in the Barça game (5 to City, 1 to Barcelona) and 8 in the Real Madrid game (5 to City, 3 to Real Madrid – including 2 yellows to a red for Alvaro Arbeloa, which led to a Sergio Aguero penalty).

City go into Wednesday’s second leg against Monaco with a 5-3 lead, but with the principality club having three away goals, there is still much to be done.
