The 30-year-old landed in Istanbul at 8:30pm last night and was greeted by hundreds of passionate fans before heading to the club offices to sign his contract.
Fernando joined Manchester City from FC Porto in the summer of 2014 for £12million and made his competitive debut against Arsenal in the FA Community Shield. The midfielder never quite lived up to expectations but played his part as a solid squad player, making over 100 appearances for the Blues.
The arrival of Pep Guardiola saw Fernando’s involvement limited, and he made only 26 appearances in all competitions last season, compared to 42 the year before when Manuel Pellegrini was in charge.
A number of clubs, including Newcastle United, were said to be keen on Fernando, but his future is in Turkey’s Süper Lig with the famous Galatasaray club.
From everyone at City Watch to ‘The Octopus’, good luck on your new adventure!
